# Quickstart

> Create your first test assessment and follow its decision lifecycle.

<Info>
  These examples use the Bubble test environment. Use test staff and assessment IDs.
</Info>

## Before you begin

You need a company API token issued by WFA, a server-side integration, and the staff IDs used by your company. Keep the token out of browser code.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set up authentication">
    Send `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_COMPANY_TOKEN` and `Content-Type: application/json` with every request. See [Authentication](/authentication).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create an assessment">
    Use [Create an assessment](/api-reference/create-assessment) with the employee, destination and travel details. Save the returned assessment ID and redirect URL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Retrieve the results">
    Pass the saved ID as `assessmentId` to [Retrieve an assessment](/api-reference/retrieve-assessment). Read the applicable risk results.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record a decision">
    Use [Update a decision](/api-reference/update-decision) to record the status, decision note and the appropriate approver ID. A compliance approver must be registered and activated for your company.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Need to add an approver?

[Invite a staff member](/api-reference/invite-staff) creates a pending user with the Approver role and sends invitation emails. Confirm the test email recipient before making this request.

## Check the response body

An HTTP 200 response can still contain an API error. Check `status` and, where returned, `success` before continuing. See [Errors and retries](/errors).
